Letter from Charley
Kids become great when they know they are highly valued by someone. Someone who can sympathize with a young girl who falls and scrapes her knee in Pomona, California, or someone to celebrate with a boy when he scores a goal in the community’s makeshift soccer tournament in Arequipa, Peru.
We have met so many kids and our take away is this: their situation is not reflective of their potential. Thank you so much for the work you do, the work you’re doing, your support, and your contributions. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of children.

Edgar was raised in Pomona by a single parent — his mom. While attending the local public school, he was introduced to mentors at Bright Prospect. Edgar was exposed to new opportunities and guided by mentors not only to discover his passions, but also his immense potential, leading him to pursue an engineering degree at Harvard.
At a critical age, Bright Prospect mentors believed in him when it mattered most, and Edgar believes that has made all the difference in his life.

About Us
While visiting Peru for the first time in 2007, Charley Shin encountered many young children not attending school and living in poverty. Profoundly moved by their situation, he wanted to make difference in their lives that would meet their immediate needs and position them for a more promising future. In 2010, he established Charleys Kids® to share hope.
Charleys Kids® supports local and worldwide organizations that effectively address the need of the kids in their region:

We partner with 501(c)(3) organizations with powerful local children’s programs. Many of our partner programs are spearheaded by passionate community members and sustained by volunteers of all ages, businessmen and women, college students, and the list goes on. We love how our partners meaningfully engage the entire community to work together to tackle the issues at hand. We support programs that provide educational resources, food, and/or mentorship. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of the children.
